Aikido & Iaido
Aikido of Center City is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation. The dojo provides Aikido classes 6 days a week. The membership gives you access to all classes without restriction or limits. Some of the classes are dedicated to weapons, you will practice the Bokken (wooden sword) and/or the Jo (wooden staff). We also give Iaido instruction (traditional Japanese swordmanship) once a week. For a detailed schedule please link to our website: http://www.aikidocentercity.com/schedule_frame.html. We encourage you to come and observe practice at your convenience. Our chief instructor, Donovan Waite Sensei started practicing the art at a very early age and now has over thirty years of experience. For over ten years he was Uchi Deshi under Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei at the New York Aikikai. He holds the rank of Sixth Dan with the United States Aikido Federation. He also holds the certificate of "Shidoin", or professional instructor. He is a martial arts professional who has dedicated his life to the practice of the teachings of Aikido. What is Aikido? Ai, harmony. Ki, spirit. Do, way. Aikido, the way of the spirit of harmony is a powerful and compassionate Japanese martial art. By using throws and immobilizing holds, an aikido student redirects and neutralizes the force of the opponent's attack. Aikido's circular movements do not rely on strength, making it practical for women, men and children of all sizes and abilities. We are located in Philadelphia Center City at 722 Market St, between 7th and 8th.
